Coalition opts for Mitrik as head of secret service

The Coalition Council session this evening, 20 July, elected SDKU-DS nominee Karol Mitrik to the post of Director of the Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS).

An experienced 63-year old manager, Mitrik has been mayor of Spisska Nova Ves twice already, in 1994-2002, when he was nominated by the Christian democrats KDH. He was one of the founders of the SDKU party, acting as an SDKU MP in the Kosice regional parliament between 2001-2005 and as an MP in the national parliament between 2002-06. During his time in parliament, he was in the parliamentary committees for public administration, special supervision of the secret services and for military intelligence. He has been the co-owner of the company DND Trade since April 2010.
