More foreigners employed in Slovakia than last year

According to latest figures from the Ministry of Labour, it seems that the trend of Slovak companies employing foreigners is on the up again after a three-year period of decline.

Statistics from the Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family quote a 15% year-on-year rise in the number of foreigners employed in Slovakia in August, when there were officially 18,000 foreigners employed in the country. In terms of the greatest number of workers, Romania comes top of the table.

Speaking to Hospodarske noviny, Volkswagen spokesman Vladimir Machalik pointed out that foreigners are no longer offered manual work really, as they are mostly taken on in some kind of management position. ”This especially concerns positions of specialists and managers,” said Machalik.
