SaS Party Pushes for Legal Euthanasia

The Freedom and Solidarity party (SaS) is pushing for a debate on the issue of euthanasia and so will be putting a series of public discussions together with the involvement of doctors and other experts dealing with terminally ill patients.

The party is also planning to submit a proposal to parliament that would give people the choice of ending their own life, subject to an evaluation of the degree of suffering. At present euthanasia is classed alongside premeditated murder, vice-chair of the party Jana Kissova pointed out at a press conference on Tuesday.

Efforts to change government policies on euthanasia in the 20th century have met limited success in Western countries. Euthanasia policies have also been developed by a variety of NGOs. As of 2014, euthanasia is only legal in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland, Germany,Albania, Colombia, Japan and in the US states of Washington, Oregon, Vermont, New Mexico and Montana.

Euthanasia was criminalized in Mexico, Thailand, Estonia, the Australian State of Northern Territory and the US State of California. Source: Wikipedia

I have to agree with Matt. The SaS should read the OECD report – Health at a Glance: Europe and devote some effort and limited parliamentary time into pushing for major reforms and improvements to the Slovak health system. The figures are truly disturbing and the SVKs ranking at or near the top of poor performance tables whilst lanquishing at or near the bottom of patient survival rates for almost every medical condition suggest that a campaign for legalised euthanasia appears to be superfluous when the chances of actual survival are so low.

Bobbaaaay returns full panda-power and together with his sidekick, Kalinuts we see no improvement or positive changes since Gas in da trash was booted. Oh woe is the Slowv and we keep taking steps backwards and put important issues like this to the front of the line…
