SaS Party Pushes for Legal Euthanasia
The Freedom and Solidarity party (SaS) is pushing for a debate on the issue of euthanasia and so will be putting a series of public discussions together with the involvement of doctors and other experts dealing with terminally ill patients.
The party is also planning to submit a proposal to parliament that would give people the choice of ending their own life, subject to an evaluation of the degree of suffering. At present euthanasia is classed alongside premeditated murder, vice-chair of the party Jana Kissova pointed out at a press conference on Tuesday.
Efforts to change government policies on euthanasia in the 20th century have met limited success in Western countries. Euthanasia policies have also been developed by a variety of NGOs. As of 2014, euthanasia is only legal in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland, Germany,Albania, Colombia, Japan and in the US states of Washington, Oregon, Vermont, New Mexico and Montana.
Euthanasia was criminalized in Mexico, Thailand, Estonia, the Australian State of Northern Territory and the US State of California. Source: Wikipedia
