Swiss Assist With Slovak Environmental Issues

Floods - an increasingly common sight in Slovakia

An agreement was signed yesterday between the Government Office and the Swiss Ambassador to Slovakia, Christian Fotsch, which will provide funding for NGOs and projects of environmental protection.

The agreement outlines the Programme of Swiss-Slovak Co-operation and among other things will fund projects dealing with natural disasters, forest ecosystems, and environmental protection in the Carpathian mountain range, covering the programming period up to 2014. The grants programme for NGOs will be managed and co-ordinated by the foundation Nadácia Ekopolis.

Four projects have already been pinpointed for funding worth almost EUR 13.5 million, while the overall budget is set at EUR 61 million.
