Water prices rising silently

Water companies throughout Slovakia have been raising their prices without prior warning, with hikes of up to 8 percent.

Many local water companies put up their rates as early as the spring, but they have been doing it in a low-key manner so as not to provoke too much media attention about it, by not making announcements beforehand.

Utilities regulator URSO has been getting about one request a month from water companies applying to raise their prices, meaning the average price of water nationwide has increased by an average of 2%.
