5 heller coin sold for an amazing EUR 20,000

Czech newswire CTK has reported how a 5 heller coin issued in 1924 was sold at auction for an amazing CZK 506,000 (EUR 20,205) last Saturday. Roman Vesely from the auctioneers told CTK that this is 10 million time its nominal value.

The starting price was CZK 220,000, and the coin is valuable because there are only ten coins like it in the world because a broken mint plate caused production to be halted, Vesely informed CTK.

The rare coin comes from the assets of a director of the national mint in Kremnica, Slovakia, which manufactured the tender for former Czechoslovakia.
