The government’s shakeup of the emission allowance system, which saw a swift revision made to the law on Wednesday, will mean that the aviation sector will now also be afforded the luxury.
Aviation will therefore become part of the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS) from March. The government had to finish off the legislation as it faced a sanction from the EU over certain reservations of the European Commission. Slovakia and six other members states faced the legal action.
Aviation companies now have to apply to the Ministry of Environment by the end of March if they want to be allocated some emission allowance.
