There is a lot of great music in the world, but not that many great live music concerts or events in Slovakia.
In early October, though, you may want to visit Bratislava if you are into jazz, as it invites you for a great jazz festival.
Jazz lovers will be given a great musical treat with the Bratislava Jazz Days 2010 event. From Friday 22 October to Sunday 24 October, Bratislava’s PKO venue will be come to life with vibrating jazz.
It is the international jazz festival and it is among the largest events of its kind in Central Europe, as it attracts some of the biggest and best names in world jazz to Bratislava.
The most prominent personality of Slovak jazz, Peter Lipa, was crucial to the birth of the festival. The first Bratislava Jazz Days took place in 1975 and at that time only musicians from Czechoslovakia and other neighbouring socialist countries presented their music there.
Over time this has changed, though, with the festival welcoming world jazz stars like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin or Bobbie McFerrin. It has become a major event in the jazz calendar, attracting musicians and music lovers from across Europe.
Jazz-lovers can expect to hear every kind of jazz performed by big bands, chamber ensembles and soloists. So come and enjoy a wide array of jazz styles at Bratislava Jazz Days!
