On Friday Canadian ambassador to Slovakia Valerie Raymond announced a new project called Experience Canada, which should make it easier for young Slovaks to visit Canada and get work experience there.
The project is open to young people aged 18-35 and will give them a chance to get an internship in Canada and develop their professional skills for a period of one year.
The participation criteria are mild, with no special requirements being made of their skills or command of the English language. The selected applicants do not even need to have an agreement with some employer in advance, and so can just travel to Canada and start looking for opportunities.
The main aim is to let Slovaks get a feel of Canada and its people, probably with the long-term prospect of emigrating there. Up to 100 young people should be given the chance to take part in the programme this year already, with more planned for the years to come. The exact number in future will be set depending on the level of interest.
Raymond hopes to see the same possibility offered to young Canadians to come to Slovakia as she said there is a lot of interest from their aide. Those interested in the programme should contact the Canadian Embassy.
