Several attempts to rip people off while trying to draw cash from an ATM have been registered by police over recent weeks, with the perpetrators using the system of inserting a cover device into the machine that prevents the cash from being issued. Once the confused customer leaves to complain, they then pick up the cash and the device.
According to Aktualne.sk, to date banks and the police have registered cases mostly in Bratislava and in the south of the country, but there were only 15 cases last year and 2 so far this year. Nevertheless, customers are being advised to check the cash machines for anything suspicious and report anything to the bank or the police. You should also make sure you cover the keyboard when entering your PIN, as some thieves work by finding out your PIN by standing near you or using cameras, then steal your card.
