The childbirth allowance awarded to parents on the birth of their first three children will not be scrapped, announced PM Radicova today, 5 August. She gave the news following the recent proposal by Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister, Jozef Mihal, who wanted to abolish the one-off allowances.
Radicova said that the plans were only considerations and that they were never part of the Government Manifesto or its priorities.
When it comes to family policy overall, the new cabinet wants to extend maternity leave up to one year instead of the six months at present, but this plan will depend on the consolidation of public finances, she added.
