Today is the last day on which doctors who resigned as part of a mass resignation campaign can take back their notices, and although some are doing it, many are not, leaving hospitals throughout the country with a lack of capacities.
Even though the government put a state of emergency in place at 16 hospitals, some doctors did not show up to work today and so are having notifications about their duty to work delivered in person by the police.
To deal with the situation, the Ministry of Health has set up 24-hour hotlines at all affected hospitals, so that patients or casualties can phone in and find out in advance if their operation or appointment can be dealt with.The hotlines went live at lunchtime today.
