Slovakia could find itself at the heart of an influx of people from Belarus if the statement of foreign affairs minister Mikulas Dzurinda on the loosening of the visa regime is true.

Dzurinda said that the EU visa regime for people from Belarus looks set to be less stringent, especially for certain groups of the population, like students, athletes and artists, for instance.

On the subject of bilateral relations with Belarus, Dzurinda pointed also to the active involvement of Slovak NGOs there, where they give legal aid to Slovaks who have been persecuted in some way under the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
