Figel supports PPP projects for road construction

Transport Minister Jan Figel wants to finish the first package of PPP projects by the end of August. With this he plans to respect the deadline set by his predecessor Lubomir Vazny (Smer-SD) for certain segments of the D1 motorway in north Slovakia.

“We want to finish this by the end of August in respect of the deadline,” said Figel at a press conference today, 2 August.

Figel also pointed out that the project should be made cheaper, while expressing his support for the PPP system: “I want the PPP projects to be one of the pillars of road network construction,” he said. Figel would like to gain more money from the EU for Slovak road projects, but no specific figure has been determined.

The Transport Ministry should be assigned new powers in the autumn, covering the areas of tourism, housing construction, regional development and EU Funds.
