On 1 January the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development assumed the role of being the Central Co-ordination Unit for EU structural funds and the Cohesion Fund.

The role was previously held by the Office of Government but was transferred to Jan Figel’s transport ministry in the hope that there would be more synergy between the drawing of EU funds and the most needy areas of transport, construction and regional development.

The Ministry of Transport also took over responsibility for the Operational programmes Technical Assistance and Basic Infrastructure.
