Foreign Minister Attends Community of Democracies in NY

At the invitation of US President Barack Obama, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák attended the meeting of representatives of a selected group of states for civil society promotion and protection within the Community of Democracies on Monday evening (September 23, 2013), to which the representatives of civil society, international organizations and private sectors were also invited.

The high-level event in New York was aimed at discussing ways to improve the environment for functioning of civil society and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) through complying with international norms, creating diplomatic pressure on removing and alleviating limitations for the civil society and identifying new and innovative ways of financial, technical and logistics support for civil society.

The participation of the Slovak Republic at this meeting represents recognition of the efforts and results of the civil society in Slovakia in strengthening and protecting democratic principles both in the Slovak Republic and the world. Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs SR
