The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic has been embittered and dismayed by receiving information on attacks of the armed militants of the so called Islamic State against the ethnic Yazidis in northern Iraq. The perpetrators of these acts must not escape justice and must be punished for their crimes. We express concerns about the worsening of the humanitarian situation in the country and appeal to all respective sides to respect international humanitarian law and to provide access to humanitarian aid.
We call on the government of Iraq and international community to adopt measures in order to stop attacks against religious and ethnic minorities in Iraq. We appreciate the rapid reaction by France, United Kingdom and USA in providing humanitarian aid to the Yazidy community hiding to protect itself against attackers in the Sinjar Mountains, as well as the U.S. intervention which helps to ward off further attacks against civilians.
We underline the responsibility of all political parties in Iraq in forming an inclusive government of national unity that will be able to face the grave security and humanitarian situation in country. The crises in Iraq can be solved only by a politically strong, united, broad democratic government composed in a balanced way by Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds that will be able to adopt and implement necessary steps leading to stabilisation and strengthening of the territorial integrity of country.

When is it planned for Slovakia to have a “broad democratic government”?
Well! the staff at that ministry have earned their pay cheque for this month! a global verbatim statement printed out on ‘Slovak Republic’ headed note paper. Excellent value for us taxpayers don’t you think.
