The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic has issued a declaration welcoming the signing of the Agreements on Political Association and Economic Integration between the EU and Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in Brussels on 27th June 2014.
In case of Ukraine the chapters of the Agreement on Economic integration were signed, as the chapters on Political Association were signed on 21st March 2014.
The signing of the Association Agreements reflects the free will of the partner countries to live in the community of European nations based on strong European values.
The signing of the Agreements completes five years of intensive mutual negotiations, leading to closer political association and economic integration of the partner countries with the EU. Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine have entered into a new, qualitatively higher stage of relations and cooperation with the EU.
We believe that the new framework of relations with the EU, based on entirely new qualities, will help the partner countries in the process of deep social and economic reforms, aimed at strengthening of the principles of democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights and market economy.
The Slovak Republic will continue to support Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in their European choice. We believe that the signing of the Association Agreement does not have to constitute the final goal of the partner counties within the Eastern Partnership.
The Slovak Republic is ready to continue assisting the partner countries also in the framework of bilateral relations, first of all by offering transfer of our transformation experience acquired in the process of building democratic institutions, establishing the rule of law, respect for human rights, development of civil society and economic reforms. “Slovakia will unveil a package of measures aimed at achieving a more effective defence of the whole transatlantic grouping at NATO’s summit in Wales in September.” Oh to be fly on the wall at that meeting as the ministers of the Western powers that spend more on tea and biscuits than the SVK does on defence listen in open mouthed awe to Lajcak’s presentation.
“The Slovak Republic is ready to continue assisting the partner countries also in the framework of bilateral relations, first of all by offering transfer of our transformation experience acquired in the process of building democratic institutions, establishing the rule of law, respect for human rights, development of civil society and economic reforms.” Yeah! Right! – bit like asking Hindley for advice on child care!
