Vladimir Weiss sr. is to remain in charge of the Slovak national team for another four years, confirmed Stanislav Strapek, vice-president of the Slovak Football Association today, 13 July. Weiss led the Slovak team to its first World Cup where they eliminated the defending champions Italy, before succumbing to eventual runners-up The Netherlands in the second round.
The extension means that Weiss will be in charge of the qualification series for both the up-coming European Championship and the World Cup 2014.
A statement from Weiss’s media spokesman stated that although he had received offers from abroad, he would remain in charge of the Slovak national team.
“A long time ago, I promised that I would continue with the work that I have started here. The team is young, but experienced. The World Cup has opened up a new realm of possibilities for these players and I believe we can achieve a lot together”, the statement read.
