Gas explosion at Kezmarok hospital

This morning patients in the Dr. Vojtech Alexander Hospital in the east Slovak town of Kezmarok got an unusual wake up call, as a gas explosion erupted through the staff changing rooms. At least one person was badly injured, as the windows were blown out and a divider wall knocked down.

Gas supply equipment not belonging to the hospital had caused the leak, possibly leaking into the dressing room through drainage pipes, as the exact cause is still not known.

Gas workers from distributor SPP-Distribucia had to shut off the main valve and so the whole hospital was without gas, and the fire brigade had to put out small fires still burning when they arrived.
