Figures released by the Statistical Office SR today show that year-on-year inflation in consumer prices was up 3.5% in February, based on EU methodology and 3.3% based on national methodology.
The year-on-year growth in February is 0.3% higher than in January, and was mainly due to rising prices of foodstuffs, which were 6.5% higher year-on-year in February, and prices for housing, water, power and fuels, which showed a 6% growth over last year. Prices in transport also posted substantial growth of 5.6%.
Overall, inflation is expected to speed up this year because of rising consumer demand and as the effects of the government’s package of consolidation measures kick in.
