The town of Piestany has always enjoyed its fair share of tourism, thanks mainly to the excellent spas there, but now its potential will be boosted by the construction of an ambitious water theme park of the company Iuris.
The project with working title Beethoven’s Alley should pop up in the next few years in the Cervena Veza part of Banka, Piestany, and apart from the theme park will also include a 3-star hotel, holiday chalets and residential area.
The company called a design competition last autumn, to which the architectural companies A1ReSpect, AK Jančina, AllesWirdGut, Ateliér 3M, CEDA, Grido, Helika, ITB architekti, LOVE, Ľubomír Závodný, Marek Kolčák, Milieu Architects, Nagyová – Pravdová, Siebert Talaš, SPDe, and VPÚ Decoon all reacted. The company will now make a short-list of the 6 best proposals. which will go through to the next round. All of the designs can be viewed here.
The company expects some 150,000-200,000 visitors a year to the new leisure complex, which should see an investment in the range of EUR 35 million excluding VAT. Work on the utilities is expected to begin this summer, with the residential phase planned later on an area of around 15 hectares.
The water theme park will be a great addition to Piestany’s attractions. Since this complex will greatly contribute to the tourist turn out of Piestany, the tourism depart ought to provide all the necessary support so as to make this project a success.
