Mini Blight in Sight

According to an article in daily Pravda today, new potatoes have blighted the market prices of the common spud to less than €1 per kilo.

The prices began to fall in the latter part of this week. On Thursday, reporters found out that market stalls, grocers and supermarkets across Bratislava were selling new potatoes at an average of  0. 80€ per kilo.

Head of the potato growers union Viliam Bezak pointed out how the recent rains have held up harvesting, while growers are cautious in their estimate of this year’s harvest.

Pravda also cites Bezak as saying if the price rises to over EUR 1/kilo then people might start using rice and pasta more.
