The state motorway company NDS is set to call a new tender in April for the project and land planning documentation for a 7-km stretch of dual carriageway leading from Bratislava to Dunajska Luzna (R7). The new road should pass south of the satellite villages of Rovinka and Dunajska Luzna leading to Bratislava.
The original tender for the documentation was cancelled by transport minister Jan Figel in August last year, just a month or so after taking up the post. Figel stopped the north-side alternative that was chosen and opted instead for a road to the south, as this corresponds also to the plans of Bratislava Region and makes more logistical sense. The estimated value of the contract is EUR 735,000 net.
The NDS is hoping to launch work on the R7 section in September 2012 already with a projected completion term of around five years. The section is crucial to easing up the congestion on this side of entry to Bratislava, which is blocked every morning and evening and where a growing number of houses are popping up.
