Prisoners in Slovakia are being temporarily deprived of the possibility of a few days home leave on the outside due to an incident involving the prisoner Lubos Kracunik, a former police officer.
When on this kind of leave, Kracunik escaped and raped a 14-year-old-girl and sexually abused a receptionist in a hotel. before being caught by police hiding in the bushes after a tip-off yesterday. Kracunik has been convicted six times for violent crimes, and was serving a 10.5-yr sentence for robbery and sexual violence.
Justice minister Lucia Zitnanska believes the problem lies in the system, saying “There are no clear and exact rules applied for allowing inmates to spend some time on the outside”.
