One-stop shop for taxes and levies feasible by 2013

The government’s intention to combine the levying of taxes, customs duty and payroll levies to a single institution might be feasible by the planned date of 1 January 2013, but it could take until 2014, according to latest estimates.

The so-called UNITAS project, which will amalgamate the collection of taxes, customs, and social and health insurance, represents a massive challenge for the Ministry of Finance, says State secretary for finance, Branislav Durajka.

This ambitious goal should centralise the administration of the various levies and so make the whole process more efficient and less of a burden on public finances. The first step will be to reform the tax system, which the ministry plans to do at the beginning of 2012.
