Prime Minister Iveta Radicova has stepped in to halt the planned cancellation of various local rail connections until a comprehensive revitalisation plan is prepared for the whole sector.
The news came after the PM met with the heads of the eight upper-tier territorial units VUC in Slovakia. Discussions on the issue will continue at a meeting set for 24-26 January.
This is good news for people living in those remote areas that were soon to have their rail connection severed.
The railway revitalisation plan will focus on all three state-owned rail companies (ZSR, ZSSK and Cargo Slovakia), all of which have recently announced redundancies as part of their efforts to get their finances back on track.
