PM stops railway job cuts and orders revival plan

The Prime Minister has frozen the planned 4,000 or so redundancies that were in the pipeline for the three state-owned railway companies ZSR, Cargo and ZSSK, following talks on Monday with railway union bosses.

Radicova has ordered transport minister Jan Figel to halt the lay-offs and firstly prepare a consolidation and recovery plan in an attempt to haul the railway sector out of the financial quick-sand it is sinking in.

The Ministry of Transport says it has been working on a plan of revitalisation since September, and that it should submit it to the government later this month or in February.
