In co-operation with their Czech counterparts, the Slovak police have shut down an illegal human trafficking ring, arresting nine people so far who were involved in arranging fake documents and passage for illegal immigrants.

The co-ordinated raid produced nine arrests, but the police expect more culprits to be caught. The traffickers were bringing in mostly immigrants from Serbia, Montenegro and Vietnam, for whom they would arrange forged passports and other IDs.

The group of four Slovaks, four Czechs and one Austrian could face up to 20 years behind bars for their actions, which the police say earned them around EUR 180,000 this year alone.
