Public officials involved in smuggling illegal workers

On Friday the police moved in on an organised crime group that has been smuggling illegal workers into Slovakia on a big scale, allegedly since 2007.

In the raid, the police arrested 5 Ukrainians, 1 Russian Slovak and even a police officer from the foreign police and a local labour office head who had been collaborating in the money-making scheme.

The men now face charges of organising illegal employment, smuggling people into the country, money-laundering and abuse of public office. Some of the men could spend the next 20 years in jail for the crimes, but not all of them are in custody yet.

The raid was made following collaboration between Slovak and Ukrainian police authorities, reports TASR.
