The retail chains that were accused of selling inferior chicken products have denied the allegations on the same day, calling the statements of the Slovak Poultry Union (UHS) inappropriate and emotional.
Earlier in the day UHS officials quoted specific examples of the unhealthy chicken products illegally being put back on the shelves in the Kaufland and Hypernova stores.
Ahold Retail Slovakia, which runs the Hypernova stores, noted that the accusations had no factual grounds. It claims that it recalled all the “french chicken” in question, and that it wasn’t even harmful to customers.
Kaufland spokesman Martin Gartner said the chain had not yet received any report on inferior products and so has not withdrawn anything from the stores.
