The company Skanska has been awarded the tender contract by railway company ZSR for the modernization of the railway track between Zlatovce and Trencianska Tepla, after it was let back into the tender following a dubious disqualification.
The tender was brought into question over suspicions of corruption and manipulation because Skanska had offered the lowest price but was disqualified by ZSR anyway. After lodging an appeal with the Public Procurement Office (UVO), the company was returned to the tender as the authority ruled that the grounds for disqualification were unfounded.
The tender could still become sticky, though, because second-place Trnavska stavebna spolocnost is now also launching an appeal, because it would have been the winner if Skanska had not been re-entered.
The tender is for the reconstruction of a 10km stretch of railway lines that would then let trains travel at 160kph.
