Now back from his holiday in Croatia, nationalist party chairman Jan Slota responded to speculations that he would not stand for re-election as party chairman. He said he would not run for the post unless someone else were to propose his candidacy. Given the huge support and grip he has on the party, this is a very likely scenario.
The party congress is set for September, to which Slota said: “September is a long way off. On the other hand, I’m very surprised that there is such big interest in SNS and in the congress, as we are the smallest party in parliament. Let’s just wait for the congress”.
When asked by newswire TASR if he thought SNS vice-chair Anna Belousovova would be an acceptable candidate for the post, Slota replied only that every SNS member is allowed to stand as a candidate, although he did admit that “she has better prospects than ordinary members”.
