Slovak fugitive Karol Mello looks set to remain in the haven of Belize after a court ruling cleared him of all charges of immigration violations, based on which the Slovak Republic was hoping to have Mello extradited.

The latest development was reported by TV Markiza, which informed also how the public prosecutor had cleared the charges even before Mello entered court yesterday. Mello was released on bail on Friday last week, but has to report to the police every Friday. The Slovak authorities are concerned that Mello might flee Belize, vanishing once again, and so are calling for the Belize authorities to detain him.

Police in the town of San Pedro caught up with 42-yr old Mello based on an Interpol arrest warrant in July in connection with a double murder that saw an innocent woman and child murdered in Most pri Bratislave back in 2004. Mello vanished after the charges were brought against him and managed to stay on the run for almost five years, before Polish police caught him in October 2011 and extradited him to Slovakia. By some miracle, the Slovak authorities managed to let him go and allow him to leave the country. The saga continues.
