Slovak MPs voted in favour of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine today, with all but two of the 134 present legislators backing the document, which will pave the way for Ukraine to deepen its ties with the EU.
Among other things, the document endorses a free trade agreement with Ukraine as a way of generating more trade with the EU, especially in respect of its own exports, and so boost the economy.
The agreement will also enable Ukraine to receive certain funds from the European Investment Bank and deal with visa requirements for Ukrainian citizens. All member states must endorse the agreement for it to acquire force, with January 2016 set as the date it would take effect.
