Slovakia Welcomes EU Blue Card Work Permits

Slovakia will make it easier for qualified foreigners to come here and work legally thanks to parliament voting in favour of making the EU Blue Card valid also here from the New Year, reports daily SME.

The revision to the Act on Residence of Foreigners that allows the change received the support of 85 MPs, and means highly qualified individuals can apply for the EU work permit based on acceptance from an employer. To meet the criterion of being highly qualified, applicants should produce evidence of a university education or proof that they have worked in a specialised field for at least five years.

A condition is that the pay offered to applicants is at least 1.5 times the average monthly salary in the country, or 1.2 times for certain professions such as teachers and research workers. Cards are valid for a period of three years and the fee for their issue is EUR 165.50.
