Today the prison in Zeliezovce started heating the prison buildings using solar energy, thanks to a project financed from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
The prison went ahead with the project due to rising energy bills, and so with the new solar panels it project to save around EUR 65,000 a year in the beginning. Spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, Peter Bubla, told TASR newswire that “the new solar system for heating the prison will mean major savings on gas and electricity bills and so save money”. The project cost over EUR 760,000, with the ministry funding just EUR 30,000.
The official turning of the switch was attended by head of the Prison and Judicial Guard, Robert Mudroncek, government representatives and officials from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway.
