According to a survey report issued by the Slovak Statistical Office, some 42% of households save regularly, while 34% just makes ends meet and 23% live on debt or their savings.
The Consumer Barometer survey also asked respondents whether they thought they could save some money in future, but only a third said yes, with 64% feeling that this was not possible this year, at least. The pessimism was reflected also in 43% saying they expected unemployment to rise over the next year. Only one fifth of those asked expect to see an improvement in the current 12.3% unemployment rate. Only 15% of those asked expect their financial situation to improve.
