SUVs drive Kia production levels to new highs

Kia Motors Slovakia have announced a return to pre-crisis production levels, with more than 107,000 vehicles produced in the first six months of this year. The rise is more than 67% over production levels of last year.

Dusan Dvorak, spokesman for Kia, said that the increased production levels were largely due the introduction of new models such as the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai ix35. Increased demand for  SUV models in the key markets of Russia, Great Britain and Germany has spurred on the production with the two models accounting for approximately 50% of total production for this year.

The trend is expected to continue with Kia forecasting the annual production figure to exceed 200,000 cars.
