Not even a month ago we reported about the failed attempt to smuggle cigarettes down the river, and it seems the smugglers didn’t learn their lesson because now Slovaks customs police helped catch the largest single consignment of contraband tobacco to date.
Around 13,000 cartons of cigarettes were caught on the River Tizsa near the Ukrainian border early Saturday morning thanks to a joint operation of Slovak and Hungarian security forces. The river border police in Slovakia spotted a dinghy full of the cigarettes, making its way from Ukraine to Hungary. They informed the Hungarian side, who then hauled in the catch.
There was also a 9mm pistol on the boat, so now it is up to the Hungarian authorities to investigate it.
