SDKU MP Ivan Stefanec, who is also the President of the Slovak-Taiwanese Friendship Group, has announced that Taiwan wants to develop closer ties with Slovakia.
Taiwanese investors need a solid base in the EU, and Slovakia fits the bill thanks to its strategic geographical location and the fact that it is linked into all economic structures of the region. Stefanec explained that in his opinion Slovakia represents an ideal opportunity to become their base in the EU. “We are in the Schengen area, we are in the European Union, and we’re in the European Monetary Union”, he argued.
Taiwan produces 80 percent of the world’s IT production and is the perfect example of how a knowledge-based economy should work. Although Slovakia and Taiwan do not have diplomatic ties, Taiwan has invested several times more in Slovakia to date than China, for example.
“It is in our interest, and in the interest of our citizens that we create the conditions so we can welcome all serious investors who are capable of creating jobs,” said Stefanec.
