Telecom Authority Grants Frequencies Without Procedure

Suspicions of crony practices have been raised again, this time concerning exclusive digital broadcasting rights for the company Towercom, which will decide what channels are broadcast up to 2021.

The Telecommunications Authority enabled the company to get the monopoly by changing the signal frequencies to those that are to be sold to mobile phone operators, but it did so without a public selection process. The authority is denying that any law has been broken, though.

The move by the authority brings into question the legitimacy of the decision for Towercom, allegedly owned by financial shark J&T, as well as the license fee and how it was calculated.
