Tesco seeking Slovak managers for its UK stores

On Saturday, British newspaper Daily Star reported how Tesco is looking for store managers in Slovakia who will work in the UK.

Tesco claims that it is looking abroad to find managers because it could not always fill vacancies in the UK, despite some 2.5 million unemployed there. It rejected claims that it was just trying to get cheaper labour by stating that the salary conditions apply to everyone the same, no matter where they are from.

As an incentive, Tesco is allegedly offering help with the legal paperwork and with housing, together with 12 weeks training. A spokeswoman for the company said that Tesco always tries firstly to recruit locally, but because it is not always successful it has to expand its search.
