The approved draft budget of the government has raised the Transport Ministry’s budget by EUR 51.42 million, chiefly because of the decision to scrap the contract with Slovenske Dialnice on the PPP project for the D1 motorway section between Martin and Presov.
The halting of the contract will cost the Ministry of Transport EUR 31.93 million net for work already carried out, while the rest of the additional budget will cover costs incurred because of the withdrawal from the contract with the consortium.
Transport minister Jan Figel justified the termination of the contract with the company Slovenske Dialnice as it was unable to secure the finances for the project by the deadline of 30 August, which had already been put back several times. It should have operated the section in question for a period of thirty years.
