Trnka replaced by Tichy at helm of Attorney General’s Office

From tomorrow the Attorney General’s Office is to be headed by Deputy Attorney General, Ladislav Tichy, as an interim measure imposed by law as the 7-year term of office of current AG Dobroslav Trnka comes to an end today with no elected replacement.

Tichy will officially stand at the helm of the office until a vote is taken in parliament to vote in a new Attorney General, but this might not happen for another five months or so, as the government is amending legislation to make the vote public instead of secret.

The Attorney General vote has caused a lot of tremors in Slovak politics, with four failed votes to date. The opposition and the governing coalition both have their own candidates, but a stale-mate situation has arisen in the previous voting.
