Steelmaker U.S. Steel Kosice looks set to downsize its 14,500 strong workforce by around 10% over the course of the next three years, reports daily Hospodarske Noviny today.
According to information obtained by the daily, some 1,655 employees will lose their jobs by 2015, with the emissions tax being given as the main reason for the job cuts, together with rising electricity prices and higher salaries than competitors.
The company itself is keeping quiet about its plans as they are linked to negotiations on the new Collective Agreement, and so they are refusing to comment until it is concluded.
