A 33-year old woman from Humenne has been charged with illegally receiving double child allowances for her child in Slovakia and Britain simultaneously, SME daily reports today.
While she was getting child allowance for their child here, her partner was collecting it in England, and they got away with the subvention fraud scheme for the past three and a half years between 2006 and 2009.
Spokesman for Presov region police, Daniel Dzobanik, informed that the estimated amount of damages caused were at least EUR 1,497.
How many more similar cases of this kind of fraud are taking place in the UK is unknown, because this case in itself shows that those who want to, just have to lie when making their applications as there is no other real control mechanism between the two countries.
