Figel informed that around 40 airports in Europe worked on a similar leasing system of 25-50 years, and that 30 years was the optimum period to give prospective investors an incentive. He said the whole process should be completed by June 2012, which means the selection of an international consultant followed by the complete tender process.

Figel’s ministry now has to put together a detailed plan of the proposal by the end of April for the government to assess and revise. According to a recent analysis from the ministry, the S.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava will require investments of at least EUR 350 million for the reeconstruction and extension of its runway, among other things.
