Broadcaster STV begs for more money

Public television broadcaster STV is allegedly on the edge of financial collapse, according to its Supervisory committee.

The broadcaster has insufficient funds and the government is against stepping in to bail it out. The STV management feels that the state should put in more money, but finance minister Ivan Miklos and culture minister Daniel Krajcer have both said that there would be no state bail-out.

Even Prime Minister Iveta Radicova took a swipe at the broadcaster, saying it should re-evaluate how finances are handled and the kind of contracts that are being signed. Radicova then criticised how the broadcaster asks for more and more money every year, but always ends up in a crisis, and questioned how they could launch the new STV3 sports channel if things were so bad.
