Bulgaria and Slovakia sign economic co-operation agreement

An agreement on economic co-operation was signed recently between Slovakia and Bulgaria at the first ever meeting of the Bulgarian-Slovak Consultative Commission for Economic Cooperation.

The document looks to expand and promote bilateral trade and investments in fields like the energy, IT, telecommunications, agriculture and food sectors. The co-operation should also boost links between SME in both countries and deal with issues like consumer protection.

State secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Martin Chren and Bulgarian Deputy Minister for the Economy, Ivo Marinov signed the agreement. Slovak companies invested some EUR 13 million in Bulgaria in 2009 alone, with one of the key companies being Blood Bags Genetic Ltd, which built a factor in Lovech for the production of blood products. It now plans to build a second plant in Bulgaria.
